Zuzu Kim Autumn/Winter 2012

Christina “Zuzu” Kim presented her collection under the label Zuzu Kim at the Bennett Media Studio on February 16, 2012. Guests mingled and stared in awe at the collection while sipping SVEDKA cherry martinis. Inspired by classical music composition, Kim’s second ready-to-wear collection – “Romanza” – reflects her background as a concert pianist with several new, strikingly original tuxedo blouses and conductor jackets, which combine stark lines with feminine flourishes of scallops and lace. Employing premium cashmere, chiffon, and lamb’s leather across a vibrant palette of navy, gold, and burgundy, Kim once again finds harmony in an array of seemingly disparate elements.
Specifically inspired by the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 (which the designer listened to as she designed many of the pieces), Kim’s “Romanza” combines lyricism and harmony, delicacy and playfulness, with strains of bold turbulent passion. The event was co-sponsored by Wolford and Ed Bennett, former CEO of VH1.

About Zuzu Kim:
The Zuzu Kim label is designed by Christina Kim, a self-taught classical pianist who started her creative odyssey by producing romantic, comfortable clothing for her performances. After studying fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she ran a highend women’s atelier in Chicago before designing for Phoebe Couture and Mary McFadden. She was appointed head designer within one year.
In September 2011, Kim presented her first women’s ready-to-wear collection during New York Fashion Week. Aptly themed “Concerto,” the collection was described as ‘elegantly chic, [and] trendy’ by Lucire, receiving rave reviews in numerous publications. Headquartered in New York City, Zuzu Kim is

Boudoir D’huitres Fall 2010

Designer Mimi Plange’s “Queen of The Night” fall 2010 collection was inspired by Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and a heavy dose of 17th century luxury. Opera singer Sarah Callinan introduced the show with a theatrical performance. Plange’s garments featured a refreshing mix of sustainable organic products such as hemp and merino wool as well as leather and snakeskin. A pallate of rich blacks and deep reds dominated the show with embroidered embellishments. Other noteworthy details were the use of signature rose-knuckle rings and studded boots. Plange draws effectively from fashion history, offering wearable pieces for the modern woman.
