Designer Tameisha Powell wants her Bridal Gowns to be simple. ” I want my bridal gowns to exude confidence,” she explains.
Born in Sant Maarten the Dutch side of St. Martin– she moved here at age 9. The Bridal Collection Nieves is named after her town in St. Martin. She debuted this collection at The NY International Bridal Show at Pier 92, October 2011.
The wedding dresses are very minimal in design.” My designs are not trend setting they are classic and regal.” she explains. She uses drapery, beading, Chantilly laces and some metallic fabrics. Many of the gowns are mermaid shape with a feminine flowing element.
She was fascinated with fashion from a very early age. As a child, a boutique owner who taught her how to sketch had a dramatic effect on her. From that moment on she sketched and designed. She designed her own prom dress and from there her customer base developed. Many of her friends asked her to create prom dresses for them.
Tameisha graduated from FIT. She interned at Jenny Woo Bridal and it was then that she knew she wanted to design Bridal Gowns. Her view of a modern bride is to a main stay classic look. She finds her inspiration comes from Michelle Obama and Jackie O., two very self-assured, women.
