About Lola Haze TM Designer, Laura Mehlinger
Designer Laura Mehlinger has been studying, designing and making clothing since the time she could hold a needle & thread. Laura received her BA from Harvard in English, where she was dubbed “Harvard’s Ace Student of Fashion” for creating and showing her own line of women’s wear in the only one-person fashion show there in memory. After holding design positions at Gap, Inc, Laura decided to go out on her own. She named her line after the famous temptress Dolores “Lolita” Haze from Nabokov’s Lolita, which she wrote her thesis about and which continues to intrigue and inspire her. On a year-long solo trip around the world, Laura carefully collected exotic objects, fabrics and stories. These inspiring visuals coupled with the ideas of difference, quirkiness and elements of surprise are driven into her designs:

Produced with love in NYC, Mehlinger’s family used to be in the garment business in the Lower East Side during tenement time. She says:
“I am proud to design and produce all our products in New York City’s historic garment district. Lola Haze TM is inspired by the boldness and energy of New York City, and we are proud of the authenticity and quality of doing production here. I actually have a pair of these enormous cutting shears that I think were my great-great grandfathers. It feels kind of full circle and authentic to me to be doing this in New York.”
