Iodice Spring 2010

iodice_titleThe Iodice Spring/Summer 2010 Collection was presented at an intimate setting in a fabulous penthouse suite of the Morgans Hotel. Complimentary champagne, gorgeous models and outdoor garden terraces overlooking the New York skyline were the perfect setting for this sensual and feminine collection.  The glamorous and sexy silhouettes personified luxury at first glance.  This season was inspired by all things beautiful by the sea like pearls, shells, the movement of sand and seaweed.  Maybe you wouldn’t think of seaweed as beautiful, but Iodice made it sexy, (actually, it looked more like snakeskin print.  Like I always say, when in doubt throw in some animal print and call it a day).  Beautiful high quality embellishments with precious detail added a classy glitz to the monochromatic collection along with statement necklaces and chunky bracelets made of pastel pearls and metallic flowers.  The yummy skyscraper high suede shoes were also created by the designer.  Creams, and nudes were the dominant color scheme, save for a small mini collection of dresses in navy and red georgette that showcased Iodice’s elegant and fluid drapery technique.  Other rich fabrics used included silk jersey and a lightweight lamb suede that almost melted to the touch like butter.  This collection was a beautiful harmony between warm, earthy tones accented with cool, breezy, adornments and delicate embellishments.  A sexy day at the beach, or if we were in Brazil, everyday. Valdemar Iodice who hails from Sao Paolo has a specific woman in mind.  “The Iodice woman”, he says, “is a sophisticated jet-setter, a confident cosmopolitan woman who fuses passion for life with a sense of style”.  This family run business started in 1987 and is a well-know brand in his country.  Iodice captures the essence of the Brazilian woman, and wouldn’t we all love to be Brazilian? (Adriana Lima, Giselle Bunchen, Alessandra Ambrosio…’nuff said).

Rebecca Taylor Interview

rebeccaModern Glossy had the privilege to interview Rebecca Taylor on her new mini collection “Mommy and Me” which is currently selling at boutiques nationwide.

What made you start your “Mommy and Me” line?
Now I have two little ladies. I can imagine our clothes on them. Tiny mini-mes running around!

How do the economic woes of the present affect your perception of the cardigans and how well consumers will react to it?
In this economy, consumers are looking for special, unique pieces. I think this mini collection of Mother/Daughter cardigans provides an emotional connection.

This line is obviously different from your edgy, coquettish namesake label, how do you transfer the Rebecca Taylor aesthetic to something more undoubtedly subtle?
The Mommy & Me cardigans are an extension of my collection. They are feminine, modern, and offers the same special details that are on my RTW line, such as a stone closure and a ruffled shoulder.

What would you say your ideal customer for the “Mommy and Me” line is, aside from the role of mom? What kind of Mom?
My ideal customer for the Mommy & Me line is fashion-forward and understands the Rebecca Taylor sensibility. She loves magical details that make each item special.

Fashion Week Sneak Peeks: Cesar Galindo

cesar galindo sketchAs Modern Glossy gears up to cover the Spring 2010 runway shows, we give  you a sneak peek at some of the designer’s clothing lines. We were given this great sketch by Cesar Galindo, and some quotes from the designer about what to expect from his new collection.

Galindo states, “The current moment dictates original design desires and my clientele expects pieces which take them places and allows them to be feminine, beautiful, captivating and not basic at this point in time.  They seek looks, which are classic, forward, and filled with fantasy.  Fantasy is part of the modern movement currently at hand and I intend to reflect on it with this collection”.

The Spring 2010 collection will consist of  tailored cocktail dresses, gowns & suitings with the signature Galindo touch.

Fashion Week Sneak Peeks: Rebecca Taylor

rebecca taylorModern Glossy was presented with a sketch from Rebecca Taylor’s upcoming spring 2010 Collection, along with a sneak peek of what to expect from the show. Her Spring collection  explores urban femininity.  The Rebecca Taylor woman works, lives and plays in the city.  Tall printed sandals and structural stretch dresses evocative of architecture are softened with corset-inspired bustiers and fun printed skirts.  The Rebecca Taylor girl likes to wear her boyfriend’s blazers and soft, sporty cashmere  sweaters thrown over tiny leather skirts.

Spring 2010 utilizes a playful pallate of colors, prints and textures. Intense shades of apple reds, bright pinks, electric blues, and retro jades contrasted with desert tans and soft oranges. The Silhouette is sharper than older seasons with strong shoulders and a new silhouette with an emphasis on the waist that enhances the look The Rebeca Taylor girl craves.
